Update 01/16: The required changes on the BSA side to handle the Solaris/Oracle changes have been identified and are about to enter QA. Then the fix will be ported to and tested on the various point releases. We'll update this page once the release schedule is finalized.
Update 01/17: A tentative schedule for hotfix delivery for the various BSA 8.3 and 8.2 releases is now available and listed below. This is subject to change depending on issues found during QA testing.
If you are running BSA 8.0 or 8.1 and need a hotfix for this issue, please create a ticket with BSA Support specifying your BSA Build and OS Platform (export of Appserver Details will capture all of this - Configuration -> Infrastructure Management -> Export Detail Report)
Update 01/22: During the QA process, it has been observed that the changes on the Oracle side appear to have been reverted which would negate the need for a hotfix. BMC are following up with Oracle but, if you have encountered this issue and have been waiting for the hotfix, please retest the issue with the version you have and let us know your results here. Thanks!
I have BSA version 8.2.02 yet Solaris patch catalog functionality is broken giving the following error.
Error May 7, 2014 6:36:21 AM Fatal error while updating metadata. Precheck Failed : Invalid Credentials .Check your credentials and proxy details
I just tried a Solaris Catalog Update Job (CUJ) and it completed successfully.
There does not appear to be any repeat of the generic problem with access to Solaris patches at this time.
Your log snippet is from May 7, so please can you try again now and see if everything is OK?
If the message recurs, manually check the credentials used by the CUJ and make sure that they are correct and working.
If you still have problems, then please open a support issue.
I just tried updating the catalog, it's giving the same error and I am able to login to Oracle Support using the same credentials.
I raised support Ticket and they suggested to upgrade the environment to 8.2.03 or later.

Error May 19, 2014 5:32:30 AM Fatal error while updating metadata. Precheck Failed : Invalid Credentials .Check your credentials and proxy details
We also see the error message on BSA version 8.2 SP4.
We have 2 defects opened for same.
1) Defect QM001815484
2) Defect QM001815391
We are seeing the exact same problem with version 8.3.02.332 which runs on RHEL 5.10 (Tikanga).
Has anyone tried the hotfix mentioned in the table above? Did it help resolve the issue?
We will try that now. I was just curious.
We applied the hotfix and it fixed the problem. We do not see that error anymore and the Patch Catalog Update Job completed successfully.
Some other totally unrelated functionality (UCS provisioning) is failing now.
So we wonder, could this hotfix have broken this functionality?
Have you seen anything like this, i.e. a hotfix application breaking something else totally unrelated? Please let me know.
What’s the problem w/ ucs? How is it failing ?
