i'm assuming that w/ dhcp either your target server or dhcp server is registering the hostname in dns dynamically, and when you assign the static ip that's not happening ?
As Bill said, unless the hostname gets registered in DNS the BSA will not resolve it.
Or for work-around (as you are assigning static-ip) make entry of that in hosts file of BSA App Server & test.
Yeah bill you are rite, is there a way to make an entry while provisioning.
@ Aryan --> We are working on BMC CLM solution so here we want this taks to be done automatically, if there is any manual intervention might afftect our workflow.
Making host entry is a gud workaround for one or two machines but when we do a frequent provisioning the list might be larger and we cant go with this. Is there any other work around to automate this task.
Thanks & Regards
do you have BNA? can you use nsupdate or some other utility to update dns from a script ?
I believe some customers use AO callouts to do this as part of CLM provisioning as well.
As John says, the normal approach within CLM is currently to use AO callouts to add entries into DNS. I believe that there are some plans to integrate some of this functionality into CLM (check out the CLM ideas page), but the challenge is that the mechanism to add the DNS entries depends on whether Active Directory, BIND or a separate IPAM system is being used.
