Can oracle NLS_LANG be changed, and how.

we are having issues when people are responding to SRM questions by copy/pasting French text from e.g. Outlook or Word.

Curly quotes as well as some other characters are converted into reverse question marks.

After doing some research, I think it might have to do with the Oracle DB character set used.

Currently, the NLS_LANG is set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1

I found back an article that states that this character set does not support MS smart quotes, and that the charset must be either MSWIN1252 or Unicode (AL32UTF8).

Can somebody tell me whether I still can update de NLS_LANG value without compromising the data already in it?

And if so, can you provide with the steps I have to undertake?

      Thanks in advance.

      Best Regards,
