You can create custom property ..
Im fairly new to Bladelogic - how is that done ?
U just wanna sort out all the VM or u also wanna sort out specific servers
Basically my aim is to create a smart group listing all our virtual servers ? But its greating a custom property to identify all our virtual servers is the problem.
Will check out myself and let u know with screen shots in a while..
what we have done is.
We have created 2 new custom properties for the Server Property-Class via the Property dictionary of the type "String".
These properties are called SYS_hardware_manufacturer and SYS_hardware_model.
As part of our provisioning process we run a small NSH-script which executes the neccessary commands per platform to query that information from a server (dmidecode on Linux, wmic on Windows) and then sets those two properties.
With the script you have also the possibility to influence/normalize the data a bit, as sometimes s server comes back with "HP" and another one shows "Hewlett Packard".
It involves a little scripting but it is worth investing the time from my perspective as it will enable you to deploy VMWare-Tools or HP-Firmware-Updates very effectively.
Let me know if you need any further explanations.
Steffen is right.. But in the current environment he needs to do the
Steffen - could /would you share the scripts that you mentioned above with the community?
