Yes, it's been tried and seen to work.
You can also boot from an ISO image if you want to do without DHCP and PXE.

The OS provisioning without DHCP is currently just supported for Windows provisioning. The process for an ISO image will be similar to that outlined in the docs section you mentioned above:

There are unsupported but working ways to do this for linux.
I need to do this for Windows and Solaris servers.
I think for solaris its not there but for Linux and Windows it is there as
mentioned above in the trail
you'd have to lookup on bigadmin or somewhere how to do jumpstart w/o bootp - not sure exactly how that would work - if you can figure that out and it's just some options in the jumpstart config/profile files then you can put that into bsa.
