    Microsoft patch application order

    Jim Campbell

Between 8.0 and 8.1 there was a feature added to apply Microsoft patches based on the time they were released (or potentially just by the Bulletin name).  This has the effect of making the patches be applied in the order in which they were released.  Now in 8.3 this seems to have been reverted.  Is there a reason for this change, or is there some option now to re-enable application in the order in which the patches were released?

Having upgraded to 8.3sp1 we now see presumably randomly ordered patch application e.g. :

      08/15/13 17:52:43.885 DEBUG    bldeploy - [1][Windows6.0-2008-SP2-KB2834886-x64.msu-MS13-054-en-WINDOWS SERVER 2008, STANDARD EDITION (X64)-SP2] Dryrun id = 1

      08/15/13 17:52:43.885 DEBUG    bldeploy - [2][Windows6.0-2008-SP2-KB2833947-x64.msu-MS13-052-en-WINDOWS SERVER 2008, STANDARD EDITION (X64)-SP2] Dryrun id = 2

      08/15/13 17:52:43.885 DEBUG    bldeploy - [3][Windows6.0-2008-SP2-KB2868623-x64.msu-MS13-065-en-WINDOWS SERVER 2008, STANDARD EDITION (X64)-SP2] Dryrun id = 3

      ...

Whereas before with an 8.1sp3 application server the patches would be applied by the order of the bulletin:

      05/16/13 17:54:08.216 DEBUG    bldeploy - [1][Windows6.0-2008-SP2-KB2809289-x64.msu-MS13-021-en-INTERNET EXPLORER 7 (X64)-GOLD] Dryrun id = 1
