    BMC SARA Authentication Service Failure

      Hi All,

I have encountered the problem regarding to decision support server automation. I have a testing environment which is running BBSA 8.2 SP4 and BDSSA 8.4.1 (IBM Cognos8.4.1).

The environment is installed few months ago and shutdown around two months. As i need to test some report features, so I turn on the VM again, all blade logic parts are working normally, but the blade logic decision support logon page doesn’t work, so I check the windows services and discover one of the services name “BMC SARA Authentication service” cannot be started.

I have searched some posts here, finally it doesn’t work. Anyone also encounter this problem too? Thanks.

This error may rise due to many problem..even there be problem with your os..with this error you can not be sure what causing the error..

so better check all the dpenedent service before you start the services..also check once with server bounce..

Which log can be examined for the root cause?

            • 4. Re: BMC SARA Authentication Service Failure

you can look at the log $BLREPORTS_HOME/br/appserver.log

Is your BSA/ BDSSA installed in same server machine?

No, my BSA and BDSSA are installed in separately servers.

                  Is the BSA server running?

BDSSA Authentication server requires that the Auth Service on BSA be running.

If it is, try telneting from BDSSA server to BSA config server on *40 port (default is 9840).

                    Hi,

Could you please share $BLREPORTS_HOME/br/appserver.log file or the contents related to error.

also check the Windows Event Viewer for the event messages regarding the BDSSA service.

                    Regards,

                    Aryan Anantwar

actually - that's not normally true.  the bdssa server uses its own authentication service which typically runs on the bdssa server, listening on 9640.  it does not need the bsa auth service.  it is/was possible to configure bdssa to use the bsa auth service but it not recommended.  w/ the legacy reporting (pre-bsara) the reporting tool did authenticate directly against the bsa appserver.

hopefully the $BL_REPORTS_HOME/br/appserver.log will have some useful information.

Thanks all, i have uploaded the log file.

It's not normally, BSA all features all work, just the IBM congnos doesnt work.

                          Hi Jason,

The log clearly shows the error,

"SQLException: The TCP/IP connection to the host BBSAAPP, port 1433 has failed. Error: "connect timed out. Verify the connection properties, check that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port, and that no firewall is blocking TCP connections to the port."

Please check that the SQL server is Up & running.

No firewall is blocking the connection.

Try to connect with the user configured for DB connection/creation for BDSSA on BBSAAPP (I think its your DB Server).

After successfully connected to SQL instance, start the service.

                          Regards,

                          Aryan Anantwar
