I'm not sure i understand - you want a job to target a server group but only run against a single target in the group ?
can you explain what you are trying to accomplish here ?
It seems you are trying to achieve the deployment for cluster based application. If that is the case, use combination of local proeprty and smart group combination to list the active server for deployment.
I have 2 servers both of which can execute a job. I don't care which of these servers execute the job, but i only want it to be executed once.
If one of the servers becomes unavailable i would like all jobs for the server group to be executed on the server wich is reponding.
It would be nice if you could load balance across both servers (round robin) but not essential
Hope that makes it clearer
I can do that, however if i understand your appreach i think that requires a monitor job to update the server proeprty based on the server that is active.
1. Smart server group where server is selected on property IsActiveServerfor<SmartServerGroup>=true
2. Add a Monitor job running frequently that does "Is agent alive" and updates the server proeprty.
i think you should consider creating a type 2 nsh wrapper job that tries server 1, if that fails, then tries server 2 w/ the 'execute against'
