          Hi,

that Exit-Code actually means that the Patch you are trying to install is already installed and Windows won't let you install it again.

Convert that Exit-Code to HEX and look it up here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938205

--> 0x00240006 WU_S_ALREADY_INSTALLED The update to be installed is already installed on the system

There are typically two reasons for that behaviour:

1.) You haven't rebootet after that patch got installed and ran another Analysis with the old DLL's still being active

2.) The Shavlik MetaData that you are using has an Error in its detection logic and is looking for the wrong files / versions to identify if a patch is missing.

Which version of the Shavlik hf7b.xml are you using, so have you updated your catalog recently ?

          In addition:

As "Live-Browsing" the Hotfixes Server-Object uses its very own Shavlik-Metadata, it is always a good idea in this case to force an Update of that Metadata by selecting

"Configuration" -> "Patch Global Configuration" -> "Shavlik URL Configuration"

and hit the Download button for the two Shavlik files.

Then Live-Browse the Hotfixes item of your server and check if MS13-008 is shown as installed or EffectivelyInstalled.

When this is the case, then your issue is probably fixed in the latest XML.

Finally, if nothing from above sorts out your problem, you need to take a look at the C:\Trace.txt file and check how Shavlik determines that MS12-008 is missing....

          Cheers

          Steffen

It seems that reboot did not occur after deployment.Reboot the server and execute analysis

              Hi Steffen,

Thanks for the valuable information provided but still issue is same after restarting the target when i do PAJ still it shows the same missing pathches which have been installed already,

But when i do Live browse for for hotfixes It shows  MS13-008 is alreday installed and when i ran PAJ then at PAJ result also it shows MS13-008 as a missing ideally which is wrong is a patch is already installed then it should not show as a missing one ....even i tried with refereshed shavalik files..

Note:- this is a offline catalog for Win2k8 servers

Please have a look on the attached screen shot for more details ..& suggest any work around or way to rectify it

                Hi,

                Just to make sure....

                - You have added the latest MetaData to your Depot

                - Pointed your catalog to these files

                - and executed an Update-Catalog job afterwards

Please raise support ticket for this, it seems there is some bug. I would recomend let BMC support team and developer contemplate into the issue.

BTW.... Did you notice that your screenshot from the Hotfix LiveBrowse actually shows 2 BL defects ?

The Status "Unknown" should be "EffectivelyInstalled" ( Support provided a fix for this to us )

All Hotfixes are reported with severity Moderate (not fixed yet )

                        Hi Steffen,

The Status "Unknown" should be "EffectivelyInstalled" may be the probable cause ? due to that PAJ is unable to recognize the patch is installed already? the status is  EffectivelyInstalled then I think PAJ can easily detect the installed path & should not report as a missing one? Please correct me if i understood wrong here

I'm not sure if this is really the root cause of your issue, however I can post the SQL statement that we received on how to fix this.

But you should really open a ticket in parallel to be on the save side before changing anything in the DB.

As I asked beforehand... You updated your offline catalog after you added the latest MetaData ??

Please check whether hf7b.cab file exists in the templates folder in file server  or not.

As per my understanding the cabs or xmls in the template folder are those being used when you Live Browse the Hotfixes server object. Therefore they have no influence on a patch analysis job using an offline catalog.

Hasagwan, have you opened a ticket with support about this ?

What you could also do as a preparation is to collect the trace.txt from your target.

Search for a line like "Testing MS13-008" and check what files are analyzed.

There are plenty of very good KB's available about troubleshooting this...
