Permission denied creating "storage" directory using blappconf

I am running the blappconf command (as root - on a RHEL 6.3 OS) to complete the post-installation steps of my Application Server build:

      /opt/bmc/bladelogic/NSH/br/blappconf -l en -i

When I reach the File Server section I am taking the default of the Application Server hostname as the File Server Name, and the default of /opt/bmc/bladelogic/NSH/storage as the File Server Storage Location.  When I click Next I am informed the directory does not exist, and requests if it should be created.  I answer Yes, but then receive the following error:

"The creation of the file server storage location failed: JNI mkdirs of '//myapplicationserver/opt/bmc/bladelogic/NSH/storage/' failed: : Permission denied.

I am running this command as root, and I can confirm that root has write permissions over the entire /opt/bmc/bladelogic/NSH directory path,

I am at a loss to understand/explain why this is failing.  Any help would be appreciated!

      I am installing BSA 8.2 SP 3.
