You need to run both
blasadmin to set the fileserver to the new value (whatever you are changing to)
the db script file_server_change needs to be run to update the tables in th DB
and one more script called file-server-change-system proeprty if there are multiple references in the Db of the fileserver
If you just chnage the FS in blasadmin, you may be able to start the appserver without fail but accessing any older objects in the db pointing to the old FS will end up in failures, which will leave your DB in an unstable inconsistent state.
There are specififc steps to follow to do this,
raise a ticket with BMC support and they will explain you all the steps in detail.
They also provide a check script to see all FS references in the DB
the procedure is different in 8.0 and 8.1 and the docs are not clear:
in 8.0 you do this:
-stop the appserver
-run the file server change script to point to the new FS
-run the check script, if there are other file servers listed, run the 'set system property' sql script to set the 'current' file server back to the old one
-run the file server change
-repeat the previous 2 scripts until there is only 1 file server listed
in 8.1 you do this:
- stop the appserver
- run blasadmin and change the file server
- run the change file server sql script
the point of the sql script is to move any objects that reference an old path to point to a new one.
