you need to use a variable to pass into the blasadmin command to set the file server, or you want to set the actual file server location to some kind of variable ?
I believe he wants to have a file that contains variables for the installation
( ex. DEPOT=/opt/bmc/storage/someplace ).
Then during the actual bladelogic install, he could pass $DEPOT to it.
Right, so you are going to use blasadmin to setup the file server location, db connection, etc so you could source the file w/ all the vars and then have a bash script that runs blasadmin. the appserver doesn’t take any silent install params like that for configuration since you can do it all in blasadmin.
All he should need during the actual appserver binary install in the things you put in the nsh-install-defaults which are documented in the admin pdf.
To clarify, he would install the Appserver ( for example ) with BBSA82-LIN64.sh and supply an
nsh-install-defaults for initial values. Then use bash to run blasadmin ( and variables ) to set
file server location, depot location ... ... ?
I have info on nsh-install-defaults from old 7.6 documentation, but can't find it for 8.2 . Can you point
me to that ?
It hasn’t changed much from 7.6…
so the part he needs to work out are the blasadmin commands. he needs to setup the database section, the file server section and whatever else. If he wants to create new instances and not use the default he can use the ‘create’ command in 8.1+ in blasadmin.
Thanks for the help. Just one final question ( for today anyway ) I found the following
in the "bsa82SP1.pdf" pg 442 :
Using silent mode to install the Application Server
You can perform an unattended (silent) installation of the Application Server on a Windows system.
No official documentation for doing the same on Linux/Solaris ?
I believe the nsh-install-defaults takes the place of the response file that is recorded for windows. I don’t think the iss actually records what you would put into the blappconf, so that bit is still performed by using blasadmin.
