Either you can check https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/bsa82/Upgrading ( online documentation) or download a copy of the documentation from the EPD site. Either can help you.
I would recommend to create an account on docs.bmc.com as it will comntain all the documentation that you'd ever need for BMC products.
I upgraded from 8.1 SP3 to 8.2 SP1 with some issues. FOLLOW THE UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS. In short I ended up re-installing the app servers due to upgrades resulting in java exception errors in the appserver.log which were not worth troubleshooting. Felt greater confidence with a new, clean install. The DB upgrade went smooth. I now have two issues since the upgrade:
..#1 Win2003 patching does not work. Error:
This is an issue with using the CAB versions of Shavlik files on the systems in air gripped environment or the systems that cannot obtain the latest root certificates in general.
(recommended) Switch the Shavlik URLs from CAB to XML versions
- Go to Configuration / Patch Global Configuration / Shavlik URL Configuration, switch the two *.cab URLs to *.xml as follows:
- Save (note: the save button is in the same patch global configuration window)
- Rerun the Catalog Update Job
..#2 Linux account creation fails in compliance jobs. Error: “Failed to initialize DAAL Asset class with PATH=/restricted class="BMC_UnixGroup" ERROR117 Version mismatch for type BMC_UnixGroup, expected version 81030300, but found version 82010000.)”
BMC fix: In Jobs / new Job / Administration Task / Upgrade Model Objects, and select the Depot BLPackages in question to run this job against. Run it then retest the Job. I selected hundreds of existing depot packages and component template and this fixed the issue. We also had an issue with ‘browse’ of Linux servers where processes error’d. We had to remove that object and re-add it.
On a side note, performance in the GUI console has improved so much since the upgrade it feels like a new product. Extremely happy with the performance results after this upgrade, but it did come with some issues.
#1 is fairly well know, and the xml fix should have resolved this - is that correct? (KA370265)
#2 is also well known, and noted here - http://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/bsa82/Upgrading+configuration+objects
