    Best way to patch and reboot a CLM environment

    Bart Vrakking

      hey

      Does anyone know if there is a document/best practice/procedure to security patch and reboot (sequence) the complete CLM environment ?

      For now i'm stopping the bmc related services in following order:

      Enterprise AR
      Cloud DB
      Platform
      Mid Tiers
      Web
      BBNA
      BBSA
      File/Pxe/TFtp
      BAO

      Patch  the servers, reboot and start the bmc related services in reverse order again.

      Cheers,

      Bart

          Hello Bart,

          We had a BMC PS team on site to implement CLM and they documented the below best practice to restart services and reboot CLM VMs:

          • Services Overview and Starting Scripts

            1. BMC Remedy AR System (clm-itsm)

          /opt/bmc/ARSystem/bin/arsystem { start | stop | restart }

          1. BMC Cloud AR (clm-cloudar)

          /opt/bmc/ARSystem/bin/arsystem { start | stop | restart }

          1. BMC Atrium Orchestrator (clm-ao)

          /opt/bmc/ao-platform/cdp/bin/server.sh ( start | stop )

          1. BMC BladeLogic Server Automation (clm-bbsa)

          /etc/init.d/blappserv { start | stop | restart }

          1. BMC Remedy AR System Mid Tier (clm-midtier)

          /opt/apache/tomcat6.0/bin/shutdown.sh

          /opt/apache/tomcat6.0/bin/startup.sh

          1. BMC Atrium Web Services (clm-atriumws)

          /opt/bmc/AtriumWebRegistry/shared/tomcat/bin/shutdown.sh

          /opt/bmc/AtriumWebRegistry/shared/tomcat/bin/startup.sh

          1. BMC BladeLogic Network Automation computers (clm-bbna)

          /etc/init.d/enatomcat { start | stop | restart }

          1. BMC Cloud Platform Manager (OSGi) (clm-platform)

          /etc/init.d/bmccsm start | stop

          1. BMC BladeLogic Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) (clm-pxe)

          /etc/init.d/blpxe start | stop

          /etc/init.d/bltftp start | stop

          /etc/init.d/blappserv start | stop

          • Powering on BMC Software Products VM’s

          Power on the VMs running the BMC Software products in the sequence listed below.

          Note:  You must power on the VMs in the sequence listed below.  Some of these pre-configured VMs require started applications before they can be powered on.  Following the sequence as shown starts the required applications in the required order.

          1. BMC Remedy AR System (clm-itsm)
          2. BMC Cloud AR (clm-cloudar)
          3. BMC Atrium Orchestrator (clm-ao)
          4. BMC BladeLogic Server Automation (clm-bbsa)
          5. BMC Remedy AR System Mid Tier (clm-midtier)
          6. BMC Atrium Web Services (clm-atriumws)
          7. BMC BladeLogic Network Automation computers (clm-bbna)
          8. BMC Cloud Platform Manager (OSGi) (clm-platform)
          9. BMC Bladelogic Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) (clm-pxe)

          To shutdown the servers/services, follow the reverse order of the above list.

            Hello JamJoom,

            Thanks for the helpfull answer, although i forget to tell that the complete CLM environment is build on a Windows 2008 platform.

            cheers,

            Bart
