This is supported. any functions that require the 8.2 agent will of course not work. those should be documented in the release notes.
You should ask this to the support.
AFAIK, recenlty I have seen a lot of issues with compaitbility of a higher version of Appserver and lower version of agent, especially in 8.x even within the same major version release but with different patch levels /SP levels
I think BMC supports recommends that your appserver and agent be atleast on the same major version if not the exact build or patch level, But its always recommended to be on the exact same version.
What do you recommend for a similar situation but from 7.6 to 8.1,
Will the 7.6 agent work well with 8.1 Appserver ?
will the 8.1 agent work well with 7.6 appserver?
We are moving to a new environment with 8.1.
What should be the best strategy to upgrade the agents ?
It should work but I know there things like unix patching won’t work until you upgrade. which is something that requires the newer agent and that should be called out in the release notes as well.
Rohit – he is doing the reverse of what you said. He is upgrading to 8.2 first on the appserver and leaving the agents at 8.1.03.
Yes, I understand that.
I have done this in the past, still better to get your answer.
Hi Bill, As always, thanks a lot for the quick reply
I have also other customer who work with BSA 8.1.2,
The customer want to upgrade to 8.2 sp1,
We would like to know if we have old version of console (8.1.2)
Does thus old console will Success to work with the new Bladelogic application server?
Or we need to upgrade immediately also the entire consoles
I think you will have to upgrade the console to 8.2 sp1 as well. I have seen a few issues in using the older version of console. The console may work but have issues in accessing some workspaces. better to upgrade the consoels as well.
We do not support using mismatched console versions w/ the appserver. you must upgrade the console to the appserver level. there is also a ‘versioncompatibility’ blasadmin setting that will deny access to mismatched clients.
