BL is version 8.1, the servers are Windows 2003 and they are Dell M600's in a blade enclosure. These are the only blades we have, all other Windows servers (150+) are reporting ok.

There was a fix in 8.0SP11 (QM001707683 Live browse of Dell servers running the Windows OS in a Blade enclosure
yields the incorrect serial number), but as far as I can tell, the same change is included in 8.1.00 base, so it looks like that can be ruled out.
Unless anyone else has any suggestions, I'd proceed by manually executing the collection binary and opening a support issue (assuming you see the enclosure serial in the output )

Can you verify the agent version on the target. ‘bl version is 8.1’ – does that mean the appserver or the target agents too ?

I'm guessing the agent would still have the bug and explain this?
Yes - the problem tracking record I mentioned was for RSCD Agent.
You need to upgrade the Agent to (at least) 8.0SP11. but Bill may suggest you go to 8.1.xx to come in line with the app server

Well I don't think that worked. I upgraded the agent to 22.214.171.1245 and licensed it, and reimported the hardware information by running a DCO but it is still showing the enclosure serial number.
I'd love to think this is historic data that needs refreshing but don't think so

You are seeing this is the live browse right?
You should not need to run the distribute config object, that should be included w/ the agent – you maybe have pushed an old version of the co out.
The app server is 8.1 and used the agents that came with the 8.1 upgrade;
I'm pretty sure it is me doing something wrong as I rarely use Bladelogic but I'm not sure what I need to do to make sure I do this right.
My steps so far for clarity;
1) Backed up exports and user.local files in "C:\windows\rsc"
2) Uninstalled Agent on server
3) Installed new Agent
4) Put user.local and exports file back into the "C:\windows\rsc" directory
5) Licensed agent using bllic in a nsh session and confirmed as licensed and the 8.1 agent installed
6) Opened the BL console and right clicked the server and did "verify"
7) Live Browsed the server and found no Hardware Information
8) Ran DCO to bring that information in
9) Upon discovery of old information, I decommisioned the server and then brought it back via "add a server".
If there is something potentially wrong here, I do have other servers to run an upgrade on to test.

The fix for this issue was in a binary named winscan.exe that sits on the target and is used by your rscd agent.
The binary is shipped as a part of the agent installer.

I ran the command given by Jim;

I checked the date on the winscan.exe and it was 25/1/2011, so sounds like it was upgraded. The server is still saying the serial number is the enclosure serial. I'll reinstall the agent again and take it from there unless someone has a better idea?
I doubt reinstalling will change anything, so send the winscan results to support so that they can follow through with product engineering.
Include the wmi information too.
For me, it looks like either the fix in 8.0SP11 slipped the net for 8.1, or this is a variation on the use-case that was fixed.

I think the winscan.exe is still the older one.
If you open the winscan.out and search for "serial_number", with the new winscan.exe you should get two hits like:
If you didnt get these, you still have the older version
