      Does anyone have best practices and methodology for application packaging in Server Automation

          Hi Vishal,

           

          Depends on the applications that you are looking to deploy.

           

          If they are installables such as MSI/EXE/Intsallshield, then you need to identify the silent installation parameters for that type of package.

           

          For files such as WAR/TAR/ZIP then you can use a BLPackage with a component of the files that you wish to deploy and external commands to do something with them (Stop Tomcat, copy, start Tomcat).

           

          If you have a Release Managment Process, then I would use that as the basis of setting up BladeLogic, use the gates (Dev/Test/Pre-Prod/Prod) as the workspaces for the jobs and then you can use RBAC to create ACL's to lock them down.

           

          It really depends on how far you want to go on this.
