    Patch Catalog - Red Hat sub-channels

      Can the Server Automation tool subscribe,  provide patch analysis, and patch deployment to Red Hat sub-channels?

      Examples of these sub-channels are:

      RHEL FasTrack

      RHEL Optional Productivity Apps

      RHEL Supplementary

      RHEL Virtualization

      Red Hat Network Tools for RHEL Server

      RHEL Cluster-Storage

      RHEL Clustering

      RHEL Hardware Certification

      Currently the only options that I see when configuring the patch catalog are the RHEL 5 base channels.

          you will need to make your catalog 'offline' and then use the offline downloader.  in the offline downloader's config file you can specify to download the specific child channels that you want and those will be part of the catalog.

            I am having trouble using the offline downloader to create a repository for a Red Hat sub-channel.  I am using version 8.1.0-39.  I edit an sample xml file with the parameters that I think are correct, the start the downloader script.  I get the following error message:

            Error occurred while updating the feed. No SKUs have been set for the Redhat Subscription Downloader finished with return status - 1

            I do have a valid RHN account with rights to subscribe to the sub-channel requested.  I have also been able to use the downloader to download packages from a base channel.

            Do anyone have a working example of an XML file that will download the sub-channel content?

            Are there any additional steps in addition to editing the XML based configuration file that have to be executed?

            Thanks in advance.

              So this works w/ the 8.0.7 downloader, but when i use the 8.1 downloader i get this:

              $ ./redhat_downloader.sh -configFile rh.xml -rhnUser <user> -rhnPass <pass>

              Error occurred while updating the feed. Config file contains multiple entries of same OS-Arch.

              Downloader finished with return status - 1

              so maybe try the 8.0.7 (8.0 SP7) downloader, and open a ticket for the 8.1 downloader.  the below should work w/ the 8.0.7 version:

              <redhat-downloader-config>

              <config>

              <temporary-location>/tmp</temporary-location>

              <payload-repository-location>/u01/payload/redhat/rhel-i386-server-5</payload-repository-location>

              <download-request-retries>10</download-request-retries>

              <download-request-timeout>180000</download-request-timeout>

              <downloader-parallel-threads>5</downloader-parallel-threads>

              </config>

                Thanks Bill - I encountered that error as well.

                I'll submit a ticket today.

                The help is greatly appreciated.

                  You should be able to use the 8.0.7 downloader w/ 8.1 btw.

                    For information, the 8.2 patch downloader officially supports this functionality.

                    Regards,

                      Can anyone confirm if support for sub-channels (child channels) exists in online mode with 8.2 or is it still with the offline patch downloader?

                      Thanks

                        Scott, I don't believe so. The options to create an online Red Hat Patch Catalog in 8.2 look exactly like the options in 8.1. I don't see any additional options for sub-channels. Only:

                        - By Errata Type

                        - By Errata Advisory

                        - By Update Level

                          sub-channels are still only in the offline downloader.
