The release notes from each version should state exactly what is required to upgrade?
I personally wouldn’t recommend this. Each upgrade step is a potential source of issues.
Furthermore, the BL 8.0 DB you would end up with will be the result of a multiple upgrade step thing (provided that 7.2 was a fresh install).
Last, but not least, this would require a min of two weeks, which would result in two weeks downtime.
How many contents do they tave that they don’t want to lose?
Have you considered installing 8.0 from scratch and recreating contents where (and if) needed?
why would this require two weeks?
Unfortunately they cant do a fresh install, they have too much data (Object dictionary, blpackages, jobs, etc). The only available option that lets them retain their production data is an upgrade.
also, they wont have downtime, they are copying Prod environment to a Test server, doing the upgrade on Test, then moving it back to Prod (once updated to 8.0).
Check the docs, i thought w/ the oracle back end you could skip many of the dot releases in 7.4 and go from something like 7.4.3 -> 7.6
