I noticed that in the 8.0 SP3 download from
the BMC ftp that there was an ESX agent. If you call into support they can point you to the location. Steve
actually i've tried with the SP3 ESX agent version too but it still reports esx as Red Hat
Yes, I don't know the entrie history but what I have heard is that the service console on ESX is built upon RHEL. Since the ESX agent is loaded onto the service console then this is most likely the root cause. Steve
it should be reporting as ESX. is there a /etc/redhat-release file on the esx host? what's in it? what is the file name of the agent installer you used?
yes, there's a /etc/redhat-release file with the red hat release on which esx itself is based, but was there even with the old version and BL always marked them as ESX not Red Hat
That file actually has RedHat ES 3.0 or something in it, and not ESX ?
What is the file name of the agent installer you used?
that file contains
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 3 (Taroon)
on esx 3.5
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.1 (Tikanga)
there is also a file named vmware-release on both with the correct signature in it
VMware ESX Server 3
VMware ESX 4.0 (Kandinsky)
i've used both
with the same result
I just looked at some esx boxes, yeah, you're right. That's lame, open a defect.
