the relationship doesn't go that way. you can query the group to find the members, but the server doesn't track what groups it's a part of, and smart groups are resolved on the fly. what are you trying to do?
Basically during patching anyone can send us a list of servers and say exclude these from patching for this month. We set are
server groups up by day and window, so Saturday 11-2 would be one server group and we could have anywhere form 20-30 servergr
oups for a week. We were trying to find all server groups a particular server was in so we could ensure that if it needed to be pulled it was not in any patch server groups.
I think we could probably just make a property that reflected patch window on each server and make smart groups based on that property, so if we needed to remove one from patching just set that property to exclusion. However, it still would have been useful from day to day stuff to be able to pull what server group something is in or to create smart groups based on the population of only one static group.
i was going to suggest the smart group option, that's the best way to do it.
as far as the 'sub smart group' - right now, no... the static group is just a folder for the smart group.
