we are beginning to use multiple application server for load balancing because of increased load.
we are now facing the following problem:
when we need to do some maintenance on an application server, we need to put it offline without cancelling the jobs it's running.
we need to put it in a state where it finishes its current jobs and accept no more jobs until it's free.
by comparison, on a windows load balancing cluster, the corresponding command is
which drains active connections to other servers in the cluser, until the node itself is completely connections-free and the admin can reboot it or do some maintenance without disrupting the service.
is there some kind of facility in a bladelogic application server cluster?
Starting with the 7.4.3 version of the BL product you can shutdown an application server "gently".
A BLCLI command was added to shutdown the job server after the current job load is finished. The application server will stop accepting new jobs and will shutdown after the current work is done or a timeout has been reached.
