Are there any error messages in the Application server log? I am assuming this error is occurring during the connection to the app server because you specified port 9831. This means that it was able to PXE boot, tftp down and expand the blade.img and only errored out when making the call from DOS back to the application server.
If this is the case, the PXE,DHCP and TFTP servers are working correctly. There may be an error generated in the appserver.log file on the application server. You should at least see the connection attempt in the log from the IP of the bare metal server. If you don't even see the connection attempt, please verify the bl-server scope option in the DHCP server scope. This should be set to the IP of the NIC on the application server which can be contacted from the bare metal server.
Can you confirm that scope options 211 and 212 were defined for the DHCP server? and can you also confirm that they are both pointing to the correct resources? Have you observed that they get handed out to the bare metal client when requested (ie: right before the bmi.exe call)?
I did create options 211 and 212 in DHCP as well as the required option 60 as per the Install Guide.
211 is set to the IP address of the BL Server
212 is set for the port of 9831(x1667). The client does get the proper information. It is when the client connects to the BL port that the problem occurs.
i'd really recommend you contact support on this one. supply a copy of your appserver.log as well as an ample description of the problem you're experiencing. someone will be able to assist you...
The error went away after the BL Server was reinstalled from scratch.
Since this may happen in the future, it is possible to get these sorts of error codes that are visible to the user published? One of the nice things about AIX is the extensive LED error code tables to aid in problem determination.
