I have packaged this a few weeks ago .
Its a bit of a stinker cause dot .net 3.0 has a bug in the silent install .
I have worked around this in the package .
If you want it give me a ftp server to upload to.
hmmmm, seems to be an issue with the installer trying to call some type of download BITS manager and its unable to download the actual install files.
That is cause you are not using the standalone installer , its tries to download its components from the net using the BITS executable
doh, what's the workaround? I don't have an ftp server off hand.
Its complicated and I dont have time to open the package and explain .
So either you can wait till tonight chinese time or you can find and ftp and i can do it now
Tonight, chinese time is fine with me.
Are you uploading a blpackage export? If so, what version of bl are you using? We're on 7.5 over here.
And just to be clear, is the bug somehow specifically related to how BladeLogic issues the silent install command?
Such that even with this "silent install bug", if someone were to execute the silent install command manually on the server, it would succeed?
Its a 7.6 package
I refer back to the previous post its a bug in the .net silent installer not bladelogic .
I will send you screenshots and binaries , that way you can get around the blapackage version
Thanks! I'll wait with baited breathe.
I just wasn't sure if we were encountering the exact same thing because when we execute the silent install command manually, it works for us (hence i wasn't sure if the silent install bug you were referring to was the same thing that we potentially are hitting with BL), but maybe that's because we're not using the standalone installer. But if we do use the standalone installer, we'll probably hit the same thing that you encountered. Thanks again.
can you not use ORCA or some tool like this to create a new installer that is already silent, so then all you would need to do is a simple install. Just a thought. We had similar issues installed proactiveNet (this was before BMC) and we ended up using ORCA, which worked fine.
ORCA is a MS tool, not ORCA the whale
I think its called Orca MSI editor
Okay so attached and sent via email.
The bug is that .net installer does not install RGB9RAST_x86.msi before it installs .net .
This is a required dependancy and is encapsulated in the .net msi itself .
So first off you need to extract it from the .net msi .
Secondly install it and then install .net , this all works fine in attended mode and is a known issue with net 3.0 silent install
See attached screenshots
Dotnet 3.0.zip 170.7 K
ORCA is good but overkill in this case
nice work greg
There's also a tool from Wise called 'wiclb.exe' If you can find it on the net, it works pretty well too.
