      Hi All,

      During the upgrade of agent I have selected generate the automatic installation file option to generate the xml file. But when I open after generating the xml file, I am able to see those info alone.

      So what is the use of this?

      <AutomatedInstallation langpack="eng">

          <target.product>Control-M/Agent 9.0.00</target.product>

      </AutomatedInstallation>

      I thought to make use of automatic installation by running the xml file. But no luck

      Please advise on this.

      Thanks,

      Shyamalatha G

          Hi Shyamalatha,

          The results you got are correct for an Upgrade.

          If you were doing a New Install (not an upgrade of existing agent) the XML would have a lot more info in it.

          This is because for an Upgrade the install package gets 99% of what it needs from the agent that is already installed, while for a New Install you need to provide all the information.

          The contents of the XML is different for:

          - New vs Upgrade

          - UNIX/Linux vs Windows

          - Different agent versions

          What you got is an upgrade to an agent v9.0.00. (BTW, Agent v9.0.00 is already in limited support and will be end-of support on 31-OCT-2020 so if you can you might want to consider upgrading to newer agents like v9.0.18.200 or v9.0.19.200)

          Here is an example upgrade XML to v9.019.200: (Windows and Unix/Linux)

          <AutomatedInstallation langpack="eng">

              <target.product>Control-M/Agent 9.0.19.200</target.product>

          </AutomatedInstallation>

          Here is an example New Install XML for v9.0.19.200 on Linux:

          <AutomatedInstallation langpack="eng">

              <target.product>Control-M/Agent 9.0.19.200</target.product>

              <agent.parameters>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Tracker.Event.Port" value="7035"/>

                  <entry key="use.alternative.JRE" value="false"/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Force.Upgrade" value=""/>

                  <entry key="Ignore.Disabling.Agent.Failure" value="false"/>

                  <entry key="field.Server.To.Agent.Port.Number" value="7006"/>

                  <entry key="field.Agent.To.Server.Port.Number" value="7005"/>

                  <entry key="field.Primary.Controlm.Server.Host" value="ip-172-31-20-124.ec2.internal"/>

                  <entry key="field.Authorized.Controlm.Server.Host" value="ip-172-31-20-124.ec2.internal|mydrhost"/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Tcp_ip.Timeout" value="60"/>

                  <entry key="use.embedded.JRE" value="true"/>

              </agent.parameters>

          </AutomatedInstallation>

          Here is an example New Install XML for v9.0.19.200 on Windows:

          <AutomatedInstallation langpack="eng">

              <target.product>Control-M/Agent 9.0.19.200</target.product>

              <agent.parameters>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Tracker.Event.Port" value="7035"/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Service.User.Password" value="!!!BrQKaDUAV8o="/>

                  <entry key="use.alternative.JRE" value="false"/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Force.Upgrade" value=""/>

                  <entry key="Ignore.Disabling.Agent.Failure" value="false"/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Default.Printer" value=""/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Domain" value=""/>

                  <entry key="field.Agent.To.Server.Port.Number" value="7005"/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Logon.As.User" value="N"/>

                  <entry key="field.Primary.Controlm.Server.Host" value="ip-172-31-20-124.ec2.internal"/>

                  <entry key="field.Authorized.Controlm.Server.Host" value="ip-172-31-20-124.ec2.internal|mydrhost"/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Tcp_ip.Timeout" value="60"/>

                  <entry key="use.embedded.JRE" value="true"/>

                  <entry key="field.Server.To.Agent.Port.Number" value="7006"/>

                  <entry key="INSTALL_PATH" value="C:\Program Files\BMC Software"/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.JO.Statistic" value=""/>

                  <entry key="ctm_agent.Service.User.Name" value=""/>

              </agent.parameters>

          </AutomatedInstallation>

          Don't use the above for other agent versions as there are specific fields that aren't relevant for 9.0.00 or 9.0.18.

          Best approach is to create the silent XML files on sample agents in your environment and with the target agent version you want to upgrade to.

            Hi Bentze,

            Thank you for the response. It is very helpful for our upgrade.
