Have you considered making an analysis with the business metrics and system metrics on the same analysis (use quick analysis and save that as a template).
Then make a data mart based on the well designed and functioning analysis
Make a second SQL based data mart based on the data mart based on the analysis. This allows for adding related data, and filter magic
Then make a view based on the SQL data mart.
It takes some creativity to get this to work out as you would like.
Start with the end in mind (very important). What data needs to be in the view? What comes from the analysis and what comes from the SQL based data mart. Be sure to include the data needed in the analysis, and know that you can add (with SQL magic) other data in the SQL based data mart. As you wanted business drivers and system metrics in the same chart that probably comes from a quick analysis that includes all of the metrics necessary and helpful. Turn that into template that you can place in the workspace tab.
Put it all together and you end up with a data mart driven view with both business metrics and system metrics.
Many options. Many opportunities
I understand how to use a data mart to produce a view with business and system metrics but I don't see how I can produce a view with the same degree of time frame and resolution flexibility as the built in data explorer pages.
I have tried using a time filter macro in a SQL data mart that queries the database. This gives the flexibility I want with the time range however I am stuck with the data resolution I have specified in my SQL query. The data mart explorer page doesn't give the option to change the resolution of the data.
Sorry for coming late to the party, but I have a more basic question since you are mentioning Data Explorer. in Data Explorer you have a whole page displaying data for a single system, so all the charts make sense next to each other (for example, one for CPU, one for MEM etc).
When you are trying to do a page with charts from multiple entities, are you willing to preconfigure the entity (system or businessdriver) for a chart? for example:
- chart1: firstserver-cpu
- chart2: secondserver-cpu
- chart3: businessdriver1-totalevents
otherwise, if you don't pre-configure the entity, it would be very hard to have filters acting both on system and businessdriver. if you select a system, the businessdriver chart will remain empty and viceversa.
on the opposite note, if you preconfigure charts, and the domain/service structure changes, you would need to update again the page
if it's not a private design, maybe you could share with us a sketch of the page you are trying to build ?
The question is:
- Are there any plans to add a page similar to the system data explorer/business driver data explorer which would allow you to display business driver metrics and system metrics on the same page whilst being able to easily change the time frame and resolution?
Where now we have the "Service Overiew" page where we have a list of devices that we can filter by domain or tag.
Then when the user clicks the server name they go to the Server Details page where one can select the time frame and resolution
The direct request is to have an equivalent Business Driver Details page that allows one to show the business drivers with the same flexibility of the time slice selection and resolution selection.
The use case seems to be, and I am using https://tsps.mycompany.com/#/co/views/servers/overview/serverlist?appid=159350 where the app ID is for TSCO as an example, where now we have the "Server Overview" also include a "Business Driver Overview" as a second table.
Then the user can click the server device name OR the business driver and get the Server Details page (or Business Driver Details page) with the flexibility to select the time slice and resolution.
The main impediment now is that while we can make the views with SQL data marts, that does not have the time slice and resolution flexibility.
For a page with charts from multiple entities I am happy to preconfigure the entity for each chart and have the charts show data for a specific system or business driver. Would it be possible to configure some charts to show more than one system? Or is it necessary to have only one system or business driver per chart?
Currently I have been using a data mart explorer page and several data marts to create a page with:
Chart 1: Multiple Servers - CPU Utilization%
Chart 2: Business driver 1 - Metric 1
Chart 3: Business driver 2 - Metric 2
Chart 4: Business driver 3 - Metric 3
This allows me to show all the systems & business drivers on the same page but I cannot change the resolution. I am looking for a way to show system data and business driver data on the same page while having flexibility with the time frame and resolution so an end user can easily explore the relationship between the systems and business drivers.
