I don't think that this is currently possible within DWP; A possible workaround could be to "onboard" this external data into Remedy (e.g. via Vendor Form). Then you should be able to build Dropdown Menus on those Vendor Forms. I haven't tried it on my own, but I think it should work.
If I understand you right then you can solve this by connecting the "remote data" or remote DB Tables as linked tables on DB level.
As this you can the create a view form which will point to the linked table in DB.
This form should be already available in DWP including it's data.
Your DB Admin should be able to link what you need into the ARS DB

doing the above, will that not cause some preforming issues when loading the dropdown menus ? if they are to go back and forth between the data we have on-site and to the cloud ?
Of course that is different story. I'm not sure what are the possibilities in cloud. For sure not Linking remote DB
I would ask BMC what is possible in this case.
