Hi Patrick, two things for you:
1) What version are you on now and why upgrade to 11.6.11?
2) What are you plans to move off the old version and onto the current version of FootPrints (at the time of this writing, 20.19.02)?
The current version is 11.6.08. The reason for the move to 11.6.11 is to deal with a defect with the calendar. https://communities.bmc.com/docs/DOC-122815
We have no plans to move to version 12 at this point. We tried version 12 but found that it was not stable.
If you are looking for specific customer references on this version, I'll defer to someone who is on that version that can chime in. You can also contact your Support Provider and ask if they are aware of any new issues. It's a minor upgrade though, so it'll be easy to do.
In reference to the stability concern with the current version, while I cannot deny that FootPrints 12 and later has had a variety of performance issues, many are resolved, and standardized build environments - such as the FootPrints Advanced Starter Template - help alleviate this. I'd encourage you to check it out because at some point you will need to either transition to current versions of FootPrints, or look at another product entirely. While BMC still officially fully supports FootPrints 11.6.x, they have not been releasing new functionality for it for 5 years now, and eventually support will drop as well.
If you do not want to do a full upgrade to 11.6.11 at present - contact support and they will be able to provide an 11.6.08 patch for this defect
Apart of the mentioned deficits in stability and performance, I feel that current FP 12 Version is still not covering all essential functionality of FP 11. These are at least for us the reason not moving to current version. Furthermore the effort for moving is really big. Way to much manual work to be done.
I do hope that this is taken into consideration and are working on a solution where all functionalty of FP 11 is included and a straight forward upgrade mechanism without without all those manual steps.
Hi Manuel, what functionality are you referring to? At the moment the primary functionality I'm aware of that is missing is the round robin.. which should be coming soon.
As for the effort... there's nothing really to be done here, realistically. I often explain it this way... FootPrints 12+ is not the same product as FootPrints 11-. They share the same name, by the same company, and share similar concepts.. but it's a new product. You need to transition to it just the same as you'd transition to any product.
That is.. unless you want to use the BMC AMIGO tools which can 'migrate' some of the configuration, but generally just a small piece (as I recall: no CMDB, no KB, no SP) and of course no UI since the UI is completed different between the two platforms. AMIGO also does not take advantage of tool design changes, and in many cases, FP 11 customers are not happy with their current configuration (the typical scenario... implemented years ago, more or less untouched since), so you end up in a situation of.. if I can say it this way.. garbage in, garbage out.
Probably your best bet, assuming you are using FootPrints for IT and/or HR/Facilities and want to be ITIL-aligned (or just general 'good practice' aligned) is to look at the FootPrints Advanced Starter Template.
thank you for your feedback.
Unfortunately our world is a little bit more complex.
We use it within a multinational cooperation world wide with both internal and external parties (Contract Customers) being users, for a wide range of topics, only a few are IT related.
We have round-about more than 100 workspaces.
So moving from 11 to 12 is really a hugh effort,
with your currently lined out way of updating to FP 12.x
Viele Grüsse/ Best Regards
