In the Service Desk Starter for FootPrints 12 kit I uploaded a few months ago, I dealt with this issue by:
- Create a field called Request Type. Choices: Ticket, Global, Global Link, Master, Subtask
- Default the field to Ticket, but create business rules that set the field to Global or Global Link based on the relationship (Generic Linking criteria).
- Use Request Type as a criteria in business rules that send notifications.
