The best way to proceed when upgrading existing Control-M Agents is by checking in advance platform, operating system and version support by the new release. You can validate your environment on BMC PAC BMC Product Availability and Compatibility
On Windows, I personally have never seen an automated procedure for checking requirements.
For Control-M Linux/Unix, there is <install/DVDROM>/CheckReq/checkReqRun.sh script that can be used with "-product=AGENT" parameter.

Unfortunately the Agent deployment facility in CCM does not check this before attempting an upgrade. It will attempt to upgrade the agent on an OS which is not supported then throw an obscure error that only BMC Support can decipher.
