    Link Remedy with External DB

    Omar Abushanab

      Hello Experts,

I'm trying to get data from an external database to a view form in developer studio, how can I do it? and should we do any link from the DB team side?

      Thanks,

          Hi Omar,

for getting data from the external database we need to use Vendor form if that data is not residing on the ARS database server,

Try to create vendor form with ARDBC plug in and check whether you are able to access the data or not

            Hi Omar,

If you want data from any particular table from database you can use View form(Multiple Table, Multiple View form).

Yes it does require database linking.

What DB you using, if using Oracle follow this steps:

            http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_5005.htm

            For SQL:

            http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff772782.aspx

                Omar,

As described by the others....you have a few options to get the data from the external system...

1 - View Form - This is done by working with your DBA to connect your db to the external db and then creating a view form within remedy that exploits that link

2 - Vendor Form - This is done at the application level through an ARDBC plugin.  This plugin establishes the connection to the external db through software and implements proper processes to allow you to get the data necessary

3 - Atrium Integrator - This might be an option if you want to periodically pull data from the external resource and store it locally...this would require creation of a local table to store the data in, and a Job/Transformation in AI to pull the data in

This is not correct. Yes, a Vendor Form can be used if you have an ARDBC plugin but a View Form can also pull data from any DB table/view that is accessible through your Remedy DBMS.

An example is on an Remedy server using SQL Server as its DBMS, a View Form can be created against a DB table/view on a Remove Oracle DB as long as there is a database link from your Remedy SQL Server to the remote Oracle DB. Your View Form target (Database Table) will look similar to how you build the FROM part of a SELECT statement against the remote DB from your local Remedy DB (minus FROM).
