PATROL is specific to the Operating System on which it was installed. There are different binaries for AIX, Linux, HP-UX, Solaris for Unix and Windows has its own binary structure. There is no way to move a PATROL Agent installation from AIX to Windows or Linux. There is no way that could ever be made to work.
Ok. Can we do a fresh install and copy over the AIX config to the new Windows/Linux box?
Additional clarification: You must install PATROL Agents and KMs on every host where you want to run it. You must have one or more deployable packages that’s compatible with the OS where you’re performing the installation.
Appreciate the quick response. all am I looking to do is build a fresh box and get the AIX configuration into it so I don't have to start from scratch. Is there some kind of export/import process? or system to system sync?
I don't want to create all the AIX config manually in the freshly installed box.
thx in advance
There is no migration process to move or copy PATROL from one box to another. PATROL has a configuration database that controls PATROL Agent configuration and maintains persistence. Applicable parts of that configuration can be copied from one box and applied to a similar box, however, that’s not the same as installation and it requires knowledge about what configuration is applicable.
I don’t think you’re going to be able to circumvent the need to install PATROL on each and every server on which you want to perform the installation.
Everything that I’ve been talking about is related to PATROL Agent and Knowledge Modules. If you plan to use PATROL Consoles, there are additional installations and configurations that will need to be performed.
I want to make it clear that I am not a BMC employee, I’m simply providing what I know from being a long-time user.
I hope this helps.
