Are we talking about snapshot of VM or Snapshot in Reconciliation?

Snapshot is an xml report/file that holds the information about the overlays in your environment.

          - It is used to compare your customization whether those are compatible to the new upgraded environment or need to do some adjustments in order to make the customization work proper in new upgraded version. It is used to compare the objects with old version base definition, new version base definition and overlay definition. Usually called as 3-way reconciliation.

          - During upgrade when you want to make sure your customizations developed in older version should work properly without any problems in new upgraded version. This feature of reconiliation is available from 8.1.02 (using a plugin that needs to be deployed) and 9.x by default available in developer studio.
