    VM Provision by name

    Shubham Mittal

      Hi Experts,

      As we are provisioning VMs through BMC CLM and in VC we are getting VM by its IP not by name. So is there any configuration needs to be change so that we can provision VMs by name.

      Example: We have to set zzz_VMNAME when any vm gets provisioned through BMC CLM.

      Regards,

      Shubham

          Rahul Wagh..

          Shubham Mittal are you using your management NIC as Static ??

          also check the property in provider json file (make it true )

          {

              "cloudClass" : "com.bmc.cloud.model.beans.AccessAttributeValue",

              "accessAttribute" : {

                "cloudClass" : "com.bmc.cloud.model.beans.AccessAttribute",

                "datatype" : "BOOLEAN",

                "description" : "BBSA registers servers by hostname",

                "guid" : "b6b987a1-d379-468f-8599-5e0e5cd3c898",

                "isOptional" : false,

                "isPassword" : false,

                "modifiableWithoutRestart" : false,

                "name" : "BBSA_REGISTER_SERVERS_BY_HOSTNAME"

              },

              "attributeValue" : "false",

              "description" : "BBSA registers servers by hostname",

              "guid" : "bfc95668-df19-4afc-9392-d490b1a70cac",

              "name" : "BBSA_REGISTER_SERVERS_BY_HOSTNAME"

            },

            Hi Rahul Sir ,

            Thanks for your reply.

            As we have set this property in providers.json file as true but from BBSA ,USP job is executing again and again ,Its checking to reach provisioned servers with host names but it is not able to verify it.Also from CLM it is in progress status since very long time.Also We are using Management NIC as "Static".

            Could you please suggest something on the same. Why  BSA and CLM is doing this behavior for provisioned VMs.

            Regards,

            Shubham Mittal

              Hi Shubham,

              Can you advise version of CLM?

              Also when you changed the BBSA_REGISTER_BY_HOSTNAME did you also perform a Platform Manager restart? This is good practice and I would also clear the cache as well.

              If BSA is attempting to contact the servers by name, are they available for DNS resolution? if not then it will always fail.

              Secondly have you setup the RSCD agent in the template correctly?

              If you are still having issues, please raise a support ticket - you will get a faster resolution that way

              Cheers

              Dan

                Hi Daniel ,

                Thanks for your reply.

                Can you advise version of CLM?

                We are using CLM 4.6.00 version and its small deployment on windows platform.

                Also when you changed the BBSA_REGISTER_BY_HOSTNAME did you also perform a Platform Manager restart? This is good practice and I would also clear the cache as well.

                I have restarted the csm service of Platform Manager and also cleared the cache as well.

                If BSA is attempting to contact the servers by name, are they available for DNS resolution? if not then it will always fail.

                I have not configured DNS on VM templates.

                Could you please suggest me more on the same.

                Secondly have you setup the RSCD agent in the template correctly?

                Yes,I have setup the RSCD agent in the template correctly and also verified it through BSA via provisioning a VM through IP and Application Server is able to communicate with the same. So RSCD agent setup is fine from template front.

                Regards,

                Shubham Mittal

                  Hi Shubham,

                  Remove the Configuration and configure it again, clear the cache and try it, also share the vgpdeply job configuration.

                  Regards,

                    Hi Shubham,

                    I guess, BSA is not able to verify the provisioned server with sever host-name. As you mentioned, templates has configured correctly with RSCD agent, try below troubleshooting steps when VGP gets completed & USP is in execution :-

                    - As DNS is not configured, try to verify provisioned server with IP from NSH manually. If its verifying make the host entry & check again with host name.

                    - Do telnet the server with the RSCD port, check if the port is listening or not.

                    - Check the provisioned VM communication or connectivity with BSA server.

                    Regards,

                    Akshay

                      Hi Shubham,

                      Have you configured the NIC in your Service Blueprint to set "DNS registration required"? If it is not being done, then IP add of your newly created VM will be the one that is registered to your BSA Server. You also have to make sure your BSA server is able to resolve the DNS name of your newly created VM for USP job to finish successfully; otherwise the registration to your BSA server will not be completed.

                      Hopefully this will help your scenario.

                      Regards
