    TrueSight Service CI - incorrect status?

      Hello everybody,

       

      Why does WebCluster CI have Minor Impact status in the following Service Model? Is it a bug?

      This CI has Cluster computation model (i.e. Impact Function = Quorum, Sefl and Consolidate Functions = Highest, Quorum value = 51, No-alert status = OK).

      Both relationships have DIRECT type and weight 100.

      It does not have any direct events (Self-status = OK) and both child CIs are in INFO status (Impact Status = min (Quorum) = min (INFO, INFO) = INFO).

      The result must be max (OK, INFO) = INFO. Why is it MINOR?

      The following picture is in the Infrastructure Management Console:

          Hi Max,

           

          Did you check status of Tradefast and Tradefast2 CIs ?

           

          Service Model screenshot taken from TSIM console shows the status of both CIs as MINOR [relationship connecting Tradefast and Tradefast2 to WebCluster]. Hence, the status of CI WebCluster min (MINOR,MINOR) = MINOR.

           

          Check whether Manual Status is set on the Child CIs, it could explain why there are no related events.

           

          If issue still persist, go to TS Admin console --> Administration --> Dynamic Data Editor --> cellname --> Service Model Data --> Service Model Component --> Base Element --> Find CIs [Tradefast, Tradefast2 and WebCluster] --> Export and have a look at what exactly happened for the CIs. It gives finer details of the CI status and how it impacts Providers & Consumers.

            Thank you very much for the advice, but I still cannot find the explanation.

            Manual status on both child CIs is NONE, self status is INFO.

            The screenshot from TSIM console shows INFO CIs' status, but relationships are MINOR. It can be in the case of INCREASING relationship type (status propagation model). But it is DIRECT.

            Data from Admin console is misleading:

              Hi Max,

               

              If data is not confidential, provide export of CIs [Tradefast, Tradefast2, WebCluster & Infrastructure] from DDA table. TSIM Admin console --> Administration --> Dynamic Data Editor --> cellname --> Service Model Data --> Service Model Component --> Base Element --> Find CIs  --> Export --> BAROC Format --> All Slots

               

              This will provide finer details of CIs and its relationships and help better to understand the issue.

               

              If we cannot identify the cause from the CI export and one last try in mcdb [contains finer level transaction], you can try with BMC support

                  Hi Max,

                   

                  From your export of data,

                   

                  Web Cluster CI has root cause information as below,

                   

                  root_causes=['l(bmctruesight_38,0x476,MINOR)','l(bmctruesight_43,0x475,MINOR)'];

                   

                  status=MINOR; [ Self Status ]

                  sub_status=MINOR; [ Providers or Derived Status ]

                   

                  As per the DDA entry, CIs bmctruesight_38 [Tradefast] and bmctruesight_43 [TradeFast2] are in MINOR status [refer WebCluster CI] but DDA export for Tradefast and Tradefast2 shows they are in INFO status.

                   

                  Tradefast CI has an event attached to it

                   

                  root_causes=['l(bmctruesight_38,0x476,MINOR)'];

                  impacting_open_event_max_sev=CRITICAL;

                   

                  Tradefast2 CI has an event attached to it

                   

                  root_causes=['l(bmctruesight_43,0x475,MINOR)'];

                  impacting_open_event_max_sev=MINOR;

                   

                  BMC_BaseElement data class - BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management 10.5 - BMC Documentation

                   

                  Have a look at mcdb file for search criteria 'bmctruesight_38,0x476' and 'bmctruesight_43,0x475' or 'mc_host=tradefast' and 'mc_host=172.27.36.33' [tradefast2]. This will provide details of events attached to these CIs which in turn is impacting Consumer CI status [WebCluster].

                   

                  Double check DDA table MC_SM_COMPONENT_STATUS or IMD in CMDB to confirm CI relationships, Component Status Computation & Status Propagation are set properly.

                   

                  I believe raising a BMC support case would help further.

                    Hello Bhuvan,

                     

                    Searching strings in mcdb shows that the root cause events were closed.

                    There are SIM_COMPONENT_CHANGE objects with new INFO severity and closed new_causal_events for both tradefast and tradefast2.

                    But SIM_COMPONENT_CHANGE for WebCluster shows new MINOR severity.

                    Key objects from mcdb are in the attachment.

                     

                    Also I have checked computation and propagation models again. They are correct.
