.java_pid files created on BSA App Servers

We noticed yesterday that we have 12,000+ .java_pid files in /tmp on our BSA Application servers.  Is this normal behavior?  We utilize Process Spawner if that makes a difference.

      [root@APPSERV4 tmp]# ls -alrt .java*
