Create patch catalog for RHEL (checksum type sha/sha256)

We have created a new patch catalog (or updated an existing) for RHEL successfully.

Patching RHEL6 are successful but RHEL5 struggle with this error with command 'yum update':

http://....................................../repodata/primary.xml.gz: [Errno -3] Error performing checksum

After investigating, I have found that the patch repo was created with a checksum type sha256 (in the repomd.xml) which RHEL5 does not understand. RHEL5 would 'prefer' checksum type sha.

Is there a way to create the patch catalog with sha instead of sha256?

(We have upgraded Bladelogic from 8.2 to 8.6 recently. I suppose BL 8.2 created the repo with checksum type sha.)
