BMC recovery wipes out real time stats. why?

It wasn't doing this until we upgraded to new version of bmc. Any way around

      it?

        • 1. Re: BMC recovery wipes out real time stats. why?

Before we upgraded, SYSIBM.SYSTABLESPACESTATS table would retain values for RTS. Now they get wiped out when we do a load from one subsystem to another using 'BMCRECV'. Please help.

Now we cant do REORGS using RTS; we have to REORG every table space. Not good.

It sounds like you are doing a RECOVER using INCOPY, which will recover a table space or index using an image copy that was made on another DB2 subsystem.

If that is the case, the recovery is analogous to a point-in-time recovery (as opposed to a recover to current), which is to say that the content of the space can change significantly as a result of the recovery.  Thus, in any PIT recovery, Recover+ v11.1 and later will set the RTS stats fields to NULL.

There are a number of reasons we do that.  Most importantly, residual RTS stats can be wildly inaccurate.  That was causing reorgs to fail after a data migration, because the RTS values are used for sort sizing.  Nulling the stats causes reorg to fall back to runstats statistics for sort sizing until the RTS values are re-populated with current values.

In Recover+ v11.2, we will automatically migrate RTS data for you if you are using the EXPORT/IMPORT feature to move the data. EXPORT is a Copy+ command that collects catalog data from the source spaces (image copy dataset names, obids, RTS data, etc) so that it can be used by Recover+ IMPORT, which is a more automated flavor of RECOVER with INCOPY.

Thanks for that info. Can we still use RTS if we do RUNSTATS first then REORG? And then do RUNSTATS again?

Yes, we use INCOPY;  we are at 11.2 now. Can you please provide me the syntax for the EXPORT/IMPORT ? Thanks in advance.

The product manuals will have all of the gory detail, but this should help you to get started.

Export - This is a Copy+ command.  Run it on the source system, after you've made the image copies that you wish to use for migration.

                      OUTPUT EXPORT  UNIT SYSDA

                        STORCLAS DEVSMS

                        DSNAME RDAWXP.WXPMIG01(+1)

                        EXPOUT YES

                      EXPORT TABLESPACE WXPMIG01.* INDEXES YES

                        EXPORTDDN EXPORT

                        ATRBA LASTFULLCOPY

Import - This is a Recover+ command.  Run it on the target system, after you've done the EXPORT.  The USING syntax names the export dataset that was created by EXPORT.

                      OPTION IXRECP YES

                      IMPORT USING RDAWXP.WXPMIG01(0)

CHANGE TABLE FROM WXPMIG01.* TO WXPMIG02.*

CHANGE INDEX FROM WXPMIG01.* TO WXPMIG02.*

                          SYNC AUTO

                          INDEXES AUTO

                          NOCOPYPEND

                        UPDATE VERSIONS

If you have any trouble getting it set up, I'd suggest opening a ticket with support, and they can help get you going.

                        Thanks Bill.

Does this process only export the most recent Image Copy of the DB2 region or can it go back and export older image copy generations?

The ATRBA / ATLOGPOINT syntax allows you to choose which copies you want to export.  Alternatively, you can "TAG" your migration copies when you make them, and then EXPORT using a TAGSET to pick up the specific copies that you want.  For example:

                          Copy syntax w/ TAG:

                            OUTPUT LOCALPD UNIT SYSDA

                                 STORCLAS DEVSMS

                                 MGMTCLAS DEL3NOBK

                                 DSNAME PREFIX.&DB.&TS.&UNIQ

                            COPY TABLESPACE MYDB.*  INDEXES YES

                                 COPYDDN(LOCALPD)

                                 SHRLEVEL REFERENCE RESETMOD NO

                                 ON DUPLICATEDS DELETE

                                 TAG MYAPPL_MIGCOPY(+1)

                          Export syntax w/ TAG:

                            OUTPUT EXPORT  UNIT SYSDA

                              STORCLAS DEVSMS

                              DSNAME PREFIX.MIGRATE(+1)

                              EXPOUT YES

                            EXPORT TAGSET MYAPPL_MIGCOPY(0)

                                INDEXES YES
