Upgrading to BSA 8.6.01 UPI setup.exe problem

    Prabin Shakya

Having an unexpected issue when trying to upgrade to BSA 8.6.01.

PLATFORM VALIDATION and SYSTEM MEMORY VALIDATION fails, even though we meet the requirements.

      Tried it on:

Windows 2008 R2 64bit with 8GB RAM, this is an upgrade attempt of BSA 8.5.01.

      Windows 2012 R2 64bit with 8GB RAM, this is a fresh install.

Worst of all, setup.exe is not detecting the previous version installed so tries to do a fresh install instead of an upgrade.

Wondering if anyone has come across this. Help!

when you started the installer was it from a 'run as administrator' cmd window ?  unless you were logged in as the built-in, local Administrator account, you likely will need to start it this way.

where is the installer log from your various attempts ?

yes, cmd window started from 'run as administrator'.

Logged on as a new local account who is a member of Administrators group.

will post logs tomorrow when i can get to it

feels like a security issue, but don't know what to look for!

just to note we can get past the platform and memory validation by using -J SKIP_PLATFORM_CHECK=true and -J SKIP_SYSTEM_MEMORY_CHECK=true, but it is not detecting previous version to upgrade.

Logs from last few attempts attached.

The UPI is looking in the registry to verify existing installation and not finding the expected keys.

Is everything working OK with the existing install?

Has the server been rebooted since the original install?

Has someone knowingly deleted the keys?

Also – is this the 64bit installer or 32bit ?  and what is installed on the box ?

We have tracked down the issue to "Symantec Endpoint Protection" which was preventing setup from running properly (access registry etc).

Stopped the service during install did the trick.

                    Thanks all.
