You can automate anything in bsa.
I think the first step before you try to find automations, is to make a concise list of all the tasks that all of your administrators do on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, and than to quantify how many of those are repetitive.
Then it's a matter of finding tasks that can be automated, as in, they can be done using a non-interactive script of command-line.
I would also recommend quantifying he time taken for each task (when done manually), the type of task (is it a per-server task, or something done in bulk even manually), and then to define the cost of each manual task. That will allow you to prioritize which tasks are the most worthy of automation and which ones you should concentrate on and start with. The level of complexity of the automation should also factor in the equation, as sometimes multiple "quick hits" are better to get the wheel rolling, than spending 6 months on a single, but huge, task automation.
Just keep this in mind though: It's BladeLogic, not BladeMagic ! As much as people say it can do everything, it's not always that simple, and properly selling this to your management will make a world of difference in how successful you are with the application.
Hope that helps
First, the version 8.2 is going out of support. Please upgrade
Secondly, you should look for Automation Opportunities in your environment. BBSA is a pretty good tool for most of the Automations from Patching, Software/script/file deployment, Audit, Compliance/Remediation..
Thanks for the information everyone!!
Just thought that can we find the version of RSCD agent installed on servers through compliance and discovery job in Bladelogic.
Currently I am able to find that whether RSCD agent is installed or not but not the version
The rscd version is a property on the server object. you can also use the agentinfo command.
Also, using the property mentioned by Bill Above "RSCD_VERSION", you can create smart groups as well to know how many servers are not in the required version.
Any Server where Property>RSCD_Version is not equal to 8.x.x.xxx
And you can Update the agents on those smart group servers,
Run a compliance with Remediation where this property is not matching your current version of the App Server.
Thanks Rajeev / Bill for the information
