That is quite a common issue, I think. Or at least I've run into it pretty often Here are some things you might try first:
Do a registry search -->
LoadAppInit_DLLs --> switch to 1
RequireSignedAppInit_DLLs --> switch to 0
AppInit_DLLs --> switch to "qaphooks.dll" (without the quotation marks)
These are typically found under:
...for 64-bit systems, and for 32-bit:
No restart should be required for the registry changes to take effect. Though that does remind me - if it's a fresh Workbench installation, you should try restarting it at least once after the initial installation.
If that doesn't help, you could try checking:
IE Settings --> Connections --> LAN Settings --> untick "automatically detect settings"
