BLPXE & BLTFTP doesnt start up

      Hi BSA Guys,

After installation of BSA & configuration of DHCP , our BLPXE & BLTFTP services doesnt come up. The settings & permissions are given as per the BSA Doc. Please find the attached logs.

          pxe fails because:

Caused by: java.rmi.server.ExportException: Port already in use: 9838; nested exception is:

what is using that port?  you can change the port in blasdmin for the _pxe instance to use something else.

          tftp seems to be starting?

            Hi Bill,

BLTFTP is also not starting up.

I dont know y it is using 9838, when it should be using  4011 as listening port  as mentioned during the installation. Do the folder needs permission for the BLAdmin  in linux?

Also, i am not using pxe.config file. Will try luck by changing the configuration again from BSA Console.

the pxe server is just another appserver so it runs many of the same services that the appserver does. those services listen on other ports.  so you need to make sure they do not conflict w/ other things (eg, an appserver) running on the same box.  in this case it looks like the jmxmanagement port - 9838 - conflicts w/ something else running on that port.  so you need to go into blasadmin and alter the _pxe instance (blasadmin -s _pxe) and fix the port conflicts.

per the log you sent it looks like the tftp server is starting:

[10 Apr 2015 14:51:01,760] [main] [INFO] BlTftp Server Started with TFTProot:/APS/tftproot

              [10 Apr 2015 14:56:31,476] [Thread-1] [INFO] BlTftp server stopped

it looks like it was running for about 5 min before it was stopped.  are you stopping it or it's stopping on its own ?

                Hi Bill,

Exactly !! This helped me to solve my problem :-

Stop apppserver & pxe & spawner if running.

                verify nothing is using 9838

                netstat -an | grep LISTEN

                if all ok start appserver

                verify it's now listening.

                netstat -an | grep LISTEN

Set the new port for pxe:

blasadmin -s _pxe set ManagementService JMXManagementPort  XXXXX

                Verify the port:

blasadmin -s _pxe show ManagementService JMXManagementPort

If port correct try start the pxe

                  Hi Bill,

                  is my reply correct ?

The problem with this is the blpxe server doesst not start at first time , but second time when i try to restart it.

But today i saw from BSA Console, under Configuration tab >Infrastructure Management

Application Server is showing X mark. Strange console is working fine.

I tried to do a restart & then PXE goes down  .Strange blpxe service is working fine.

The issue was solved by logging a support case with BMC.

The steps in my case were :-

                    edit /opt/bmc/bladelogic/NSH/br/deployments/_pxe/services_non_templatized/managementService.xml

Change the port 9838 to a free port, and in NSH give the same port no. for :-

blasadmin -s _pxe set ManagementService JMXManagementPort XXXX

                    edit  /opt/bmc/bladelogic/NSH/br/deployments/_pxe/services_non_templatized/directoryService.xml

Change the port 9836 to a free port, and in NSH give the same port no. for :-

blasadmin -s _pxe set appserver registryport XXXX

Change the pxe server name too what you see in the infrastructure

blasadmin -s _pxe set appserver appservername pxe

                    Restart BSA then start PXE

yes - that's pretty much what i said - there were port conflicts.  looks like a couple.  what version of bsa is this ?  did support file a defect so that the ports do not overlap by default ?

                        Yes Bill...

i am using the latest version 8.6.00

I am not sure if support file a defect or not.
