    Property Instances for Component Discovery

    Steffen Kreis

      Hey guys,

i'm currently unable to get my head around this, so i was hoping somebody can help.

We have a Component Template for all our IIS servers.

I would like to use Property Instances to handle different IIS Versions.

So based on the IIS_VERSION property i can do different compliance checks etc.

The IIS Version is defined in a Reg Key:

      "Registry Value:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\SetupString"

I have created a local property called IIS_VERSION and i have created various instances for the known Versions.

The Discover Rule now looks like this:

"Registry Value:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\InetStp\SetupString"."String Value (Windows)" equals "??IIS_VERSION??"

The challenge i have is that i am looking for a way to handle any unknown versions, us we might be unable to specify all existing versions as instances beforehand.

Ideally, when a Property Instance for a known version is in place the component should be created using that, and if no prop.-instance for the given version exists it should be using something like an "Unknown Version" instance.

I think i did something like that before, but just can't remember how.
