One catalog can have all the windows versions .. And having separate one is
not necessary . just for the sake of RBAC where different teams are there
for 2003 2008 and 2012 u can have it or based on clients req..
I've seen customers do it both ways. So there is no "best practice" way that I am aware of. On the reporting side, I don't believe we capture the Windows filters on the back end. So if reporting by OS is important to you, then separating them makes sense.
