only certain types of Objects can be exported in a "Version-Neutral" manner.
So these can be exported and imported back to a different BSA version.
From my understanding this just applies for Component Templates at the moment.
Any other object can only be imported back to the same version. Not always but sometimes it even has to be the very same Service-Pack.
Also check the details on this page:
But why are you not upgrading your 8.1.5 to 8.3.3, as upgrading will preserve all your objects and no re-importing has to be done ?
... we have already upgraded our preProduction to 8.3.03 and now want to get some stuff from Production which still is at 8.1.05 transported to preProduction to perform some tests with it. Of course we should have done this before upgrading preProduction. But now it's too late .

We ran into a similar situation.
This is what we did for few of our packages. Our PreProd was on 8.3 SP3 and Prod was on 8.2 SP2.
When you export a package there is a file called blexport.xml that gets created. Change this line blmodel_version="" to the respective version your importing into. After you save the xml you should be able to import it in. You obviously want to thoroughly test after all said and done.
