Backup is failing in cisco network devices

      Share This:

      Hi,

The customer is trying to perform a backup for some cisco devices and he is getting the following error:

      copy running-config tftp

Address or name of remote host []? 172.20.xx.xx Destination filename [core-inet-asr1006-1-idcc-confg]?

%Error opening tftp://172.20.xx.xx/core-idcc-confg (No such file or directory)

This is happening for a few devices. The backup process is OK for other cisco devices. It looks like the ena-xxxxx.tmp is not been created on the server sometimes.

Also, where are the backup files stored in BBNA server? I have checked the /opt/tftpboot but there is no files there.

How can we resolve this issues.

      Thanks & Regards

          Hi,

In the above cut from the transcript it doesn't look like the destination file is being set to the BNA default of ENA-<number>.tmp We'd need to check the adapter to ensure the destination is being set to %transferfilename%

The BNA application stores the config files inside the BNA Database not in the application filesystem.

Can you share the Version if BBNA in your case. You will also need to check the permissions on the server for /tmp

Also can you share the Cisco Device Model Number and IOS version.

              Hi,

              Thanks for your quick replies.

              The BBNA version is 5.2.01

Now I am getting this three errors in some cisco devices:

Device Backup communication failure. IOException: command failure, caused by: IllegalArgumentException: could not localize property named disc.version

Device Backup communication failure. InterruptedIOException: timed out waiting for expected response [CORE-MPLS-7613-1-MRB2#] to command [dir all-filesystems]:

Device Backup communication failure. ChatException: chat phrase [(Timed out)] found in [ena-135085.tmp ..... %Error opening tftp://172.20.6.24/ena-135085.tmp (Timed out) CORE-MPLS-ASR1006-12OC-1#]

              I really appreciate the help.

              Thanks & Regards

                Error 1:

Device Backup communication failure. IOException: command failure, caused by: IllegalArgumentException: could not localize property named disc.version

This is due to the Adapter unable understand the output of the command. This could be due to the unsupported version of Device IOS in BNA 5.2.01

                Error 2:

Device Backup communication failure. InterruptedIOException: timed out waiting for expected response [CORE-MPLS-7613-1-MRB2#] to command [dir all-filesystems]:

This caused because the BNA Cisco Adapter associated is expecting a different prompt than what the device is sending. You can edit the adapter to capture the correct prompt.

                Error 3:

Device Backup communication failure. ChatException: chat phrase [(Timed out)] found in [ena-135085.tmp ..... %Error opening tftp://172.20.6.24/ena-135085.tmp (Timed out) CORE-MPLS-ASR1006-12OC-1#]

This is caused because the BNA is unable to get the ena-xxx.tmp file. The reason could be permissions on the /tmp or the tftp destination directory configuration in the Device Agent in the Admin Tab (TFTP Transfer Directory: *)

BNA version 5.2.01 is out of Support and the best option would be to upgrade to the latest that is BBNA 8.5.01.
