Have you run a update server property job or a manual ‘verify’ action against it recently?
Check to see if the following folders exist:
%WINDIR%\bllic for Windows or /var/tmp/bllic for Linux
If so you may have to delete them.

8.2+ agents should never get unlicensed.
Apparently the admin who is responsible for upgrading the agents simply didn't upgrade them and they were still running 8.1.2.
