There is certain information that must be discovered in order to relate the Hosts to the Host Container. Often a serial# (or other unique information) is required to relate the Host to Host Container.
SNMP discovery probably doesn't find a serial#. (You can check).
See if you see some unique information found on the Linux (good) systems -vs- the OS/400 SNMP-discovered systems.
You would have to somehow change the OS/400 discovery so that we discover that uniquely identifying data. (possibly through a custom pattern triggered by the snmp discovery, or by using a different discovery method if possible).
Hi Lisa Keeler, thanks for your attention and suggesting!
I was checking my data, and you are right. The AS/400 Server CI doesn't have a serial number associated.
In my web research, I found an IBM's SNMP document and I didn't find any reference about OID of "Chassis Serial Number" on AS/400. I found this OID for a "TS3500 tape library", and I don't know if this OID is a standard for all products of IBM.
For the AS/400, they say that this number can be obtained through a terminal command, and also something said about a possibility to connect on it through an SSH connection.
Does BMC have any document about this? Any other case in the world? Any instruction of how to put this number in a CI? Do you think a better idea to open a support case.

You can perform a "Device Capture" of the AS/400 using SNMP, and then open the zip file to see for yourself if there is something like a serial# showing in there.
It is helpful to learn the serial# (through terminal command or whatever), and then search the largest file inside the Device Capture for that serial#. If you see it in there, it will show you the OID, and then you could write a custom pattern to get that OID and set serial based on that OID.
Normally, I would say that, instead of a custom pattern, you could open a support ticket (to add serial# to the discovery), but I don't think AS/400 is actually considered a supported device. It is not in the list shown in the GUI for "IBM SNMP Devices".
Hi Lisa, thanks again for your support!
Sorry about my poor knowledge about this action, but I didn't find how to do a "Device Capture" fo an AS/400.
This endpoint is an LPAR of an IBM Power 8, and it is an OS/400 system, already discovered by the scan. Even accessing this CI, I couldn't any option to force a device capture.
What option on UI that I must use? I was looking for it on "Administration > Device Captures", "Model > Devices" and inside the CI, but I couldn't find a way to do this capture.
Could you help me once again?
It is possible that you can't capture the device information for your system..
But, here is the doc: Capturing SNMP devices - BMC Discovery 11.3 - BMC Documentation
If that doesn't work, there are other ways to get the information. Let me know.
Hi Lisa, I've tried to do that, but it is not working.
The device capture is finishing with error: "SNMP: Cannot perform operation, General Error"

You could try snmpWalk from the appliance command line.
I think the command is located here:
You can open a ticket for further help.

I did the device capture to another OS400 instance. That one that I was not able to do was for some problem on SNMP (probable a service down, I will check it with iSeries support team posteriorly).
Analyzing the export file, I couldn't find any record associated with a chassis serial number.
Do you think exist some option to associate this OS (LPAR) to its respective container? Do you recommend a BMC ticket?

OK, so the SNMP device capture doesn't show the serial number.
There may not be any way to associate the device to the container.
But, you probably should open a ticket to further investigate.

do you have Serial number for AS400? I also have the same problem?
Snmp doesn't show serial for all AS400 servers.
Please share me informatino if you resolve this?
Thanks in advance,
