    Custom Approvals in SRM using different Department Manager

      I have been reading a lot of posts regarding custom approvals but so far have not found what I am trying to implement.

       

      We want a custom approval process in SRM which:

      - First requires a level approval from user's manager, this part is easy.

      - Second approval is required from another Department's Manager

           For example, I am a user in Sales department, I would require 2 Approvals, first from my Manager and second from IT departments Manager.

       

      How can we implement this ? I cant use individual approval as we want it dynamic, IT manager could change so approver should also change with it.

       

      Please guide me how can we achieve this.

          Hi Moiz,

           

          For second part, how would you want approval to go? Is it based on data in the request? and would that 2nd level approver would be a user or group? Does that approver id available somewhere like CTM:People or any other custom form?

           

          I would be happy to help you creating custom approvals as per your requirement.

            HI Moiz,

             

            In the Service Request Definition set the approval as Custom, Please Set the manager of the Department's Manager in the Sr type fields

             

            Create the Approval chain

             

            SRD name = ABC and Sr type fileds != $null$

             

            First Manager level and after that adhoc approval(for Adhoc se the value of the sr type filed to z1D_Custom field)

             

            I think this will work

              Hi, thanks for replying. Second level approval depends on the service request item itself, not the data but if for example a specific item from a specific category is selected then the particular second level approval should be used. the 2nd level approval will be a user not a group. and he will be another departments Manager. he will be available in the People form too. but i dont want him as a static user. I want it to be dynamic, means whenever that particular departments manager is changed, my approver should also be changed automatically.

               

              An Example: If request item "New Employee Laptop" is selected:

              First Level Approval: Employee's Manager

              2nd Level Approval: Finance Departments Manager.

                Hi Moiz,

                 

                For your requirement, If you configured Custom approval for service request and create approval chain with 1st level =>Service Request - Management Chain process where it will go to Requestor's manager and for 2nd Level, you need to configure 'Service Request - Level' process for which mapping is done in the Approval Mapping for Individual. You can leverage the Additional Mappings where you can put Department Name and with the help of Get Next Approver Rule you can get approver configured for that particular Department.

                Hope it will give you the Dynamic Approver based on the mapping you create for Different Department.
