Pros/Cons of such a conversion are entirely up to you and your company. Each OS and DB has its own advantages and disadvantages. The best combination of OS/DB is the one that you either have in-house expertise to support, or can acquire easily.....
There is fervent support for all of the various combinations and tons of people that will tell you 'this is better because X'....but if someone were to tell me that Oracle was better than MSSQL, but I didn't have a qualified Oracle DBA available....I would be ill advised to move to Oracle....so, the decision is truly yours.
I once had a DBA that wanted us to move Remedy to Oracle because he liked it better. Oracle was more fun and challenging for him than SQL Server.
